Rory O’Connell founded the Ballymaloe Cookery School in Cork, Ireland with his sister Darina Allen, where he continues to teach today. Twice awarded the accolade of Chef of the Year in Ireland, he has written three cookery books. His first book, Master It: How to Cook Today, won the Andre Simon Book of the Year prize and Cook Well, Eat Well, was awarded the Irish Cookbook of the Year. His most recent book, The Joy of Food, which Rory illustrated with his own sketches, has received glowing reviews. Rory’s TV cooking show, How to Cook Well, is aired in Ireland and in many other territories including South Africa, Canada and by PBS in America. Rory founded the Ballymaloe Litfest which brought the most prominent voices in world food to east Cork to discuss the future of food. He continues to be an advocate for real, local and sustainable food and is passionate about the joy of food and cooking.
