Zita Cobb is a Canadian social entrepreneur who is the Founder and CEO of Shorefast, a charity dedicated to place-based economic development. Raised on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, Cobb returned home after a successful tech career as CFO of JDSFitel to help revitalise the community following the collapse of the cod fishery. In 2004, she founded Shorefast, which in turn created the Fogo Island Inn, a design-forward and globally acclaimed MICHELIN Three Key property; Fogo Island Arts, an international residency-based contemporary arts programme, along with Fogo Island Workshops and Fogo Island Fish, which reinvest 100% of profits into the community. Cobb pioneered ‘economic nutrition labels’ to show where money goes, emphasising visibility and local impact. Recently, she launched the Shorefast Institute for Place-Based Economies to scale this work. Recognised with honorary degrees, Cobb was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2016 and is the first social entrepreneur in the Canadian Business Hall of Fame.
